My thoughts about God, running, culture, relationships, the economy, the Church, and pretty much anything else that is on my mind.

Sandhills Marathon

It started several million years ago, when a natural dam burst, unleashing a torrent of waters that blasted through the cap rock of the Ash Hollow formation. Wasting no time, the waters cut a canyon like no other in Nebraska. Water from the spring that formed the massive (and now non-existent) lake composed a rippling stream that found a home in the new canyon. Centuries later the stream made a perfect habitat for trout.

If you haven’t been to the Nebraska Sand Hills, you are missing out. Satellite photos show the Sand Hills for what they are, massive dunes of sand. The dunes run northwest to southeast, blown by the prevailing winds. What you see on a closer view depends on the season. In the early summer, when we run the Sandhills Marathon, you see oceans of green. A tenuous covering of grass has planted its roots over the centuries. The valleys are a lush green; the hills a softer hue. In the fall, only a little green remains to pepper the blond grasses that sway like waves in the ceaseless Nebraska wind.

Run For Justin

Justin always had a passion for athletics - enjoying soccer, basketball, football, and running as he grew up. He liked to play most of these sports with friends and family - for the camaraderie and fun. Running became his true passion.

Sadly, Justin plans were not realized after suffering traumatic injuries in an accident while walking home from his friend's home on February 22, 2004. Justin passed away on February 29, 2004 but his legacy lives on.

Market To Market Relay

Quite honestly this crew is deserving of a front page pimpin' every single day of the year.

By far the absolute coolest event I've ever participated (any many others) in my entire running career. They know how to do it and they have a very cool website all the detail down to a gnat's ass!

I strongly suggest you do this next year...and every year after.

Wholesome, Steel-Cut Goodness

Brady Murphy, excellent runners blog.

The dude made history in '04 when he donned a super hero costume and put the hurt down on the one and only DAVIDSUTEJ in a 5k race.

This site was a project created by a track & cross country coach to ease common coaching tasks he had. The result of this project was first released in Oregon in 2004, where it was used by 85% of the schools after its first season. The site was then expanded to include Cross Country, and was then opened up to the neighboring states!

Was fortunate to run about 6-8 miles with McMullen in the 2006 Chicago Marathon...very genuine nice guy! Lots of good info, can download interviews and add them to your Pod.

Carrie Underwood

Although I have never been known to be a Country Fan. The first time I seen Ms. Underwood audition on American Idol, I told my wife, there's the winner right there! Low and behold she did win. Carrie not only has an incredible voice, but it's very refreshing seeing the wholesome appearance, downright genuine and very modest personality.

So...I guess I do like Country, so long as it's Carrie.
